How IWESCO can help Covid-19 testing centres

How IWESCO can help makeshift COVID-19 testing centres

South Africa recently surpassed 2.08 million cases of Covid-19 amid its third national lockdown. The daily increase of Covid-19 cases since June 2021 has led to an increase in South Africa’s testing capacity with more testing centres being set up.

There are many testing centres that have been established over the last year. Private hospitals and pharmacies have joined the effort by establishing their own testing centres, which is enabling more South Africans to be screened for the virus in smaller towns. South Africa has recorded over 62 000 deaths so far.

IWESCO offers cleaning and sanitation for testing centres

As a certified industrial cleaning contractor, IWESCO is able to sanitise and disinfect testing centres and clinics. We are a member of the National Contract Cleaners Association (NCCA) and follow established protocols for the cleaning and sanitation of spaces associated with contagious diseases. We have also been approved as an essential business by the Department of Trade and Industry during the lockdown.

Our staff are highly trained and use all the necessary personal protective equipment and chemicals to properly disinfect makeshift treatment and testing centres. IWESCO has a national footprint - we can assist with cleaning solutions in all major cities in South Africa. For smaller towns in more remote areas, we can arrange a team to be on-site in a number of days, subject to agreements made with our management.

Testing centres in South Africa

There are hundreds of testing centres currently set up across South Africa, some of which can be found here. These facilities are not treatment or isolation units - rather, they are spaces where citizens can be tested if they suspect they have Covid-19. Upon a positive test result, the patient will be required to isolate and treat their symptoms at home, unless hospitalisation is required.

South Africa has several designated hospitals for the isolation and treatment of Covid-19. The following 11 medical facilities have been identified by the Department of Health as the major pandemic hospitals in each province:

  • Eastern Cape - Livingstone Hospital (Port Elizabeth)

  • Free State - Pelonomi Hospital (Bloemfontein)

  • Gauteng - Charlotte Maxeke Hospital (Johannesburg), Steve Biko Hospital (Pretoria), Tembisa Hospital (Midrand)

  • KwaZulu Natal - Grey’s Hospital (Pietermaritzburg)

  • Limpopo - Polokwane Hospital (Polokwane)

  • Mpumalanga - Rob Ferreira Hospital (Nelspruit)

  • North West - Klerksdorp Hospital (Klerksdorp)

  • Northern Cape - Kimberley Hospital (Kimberley)

  • Western Cape - Tygerberg Hospital (Cape Town)

Citizens are urged to only visit a testing centre if they are experiencing symptoms. This will prevent these facilities from being overcrowded. Our healthcare workers are already overworked, so please do not panic if you suspect you may have the virus.

“Please bear in mind that people who are to go to those testing centres are people who have [all] the symptoms. It’s not necessary for people to go to those clinics if they don’t have all the symptoms, to avoid a stampede,” says Johannesburg’s Member of the Mayoral Committee for Health and Social Development, Eunice Mgcina.

As IWESCO works to clean and sanitise private and public spaces during the national lockdown, it is important to heed the advice of President Cyril Ramaphosa and stay at home unless absolutely necessary. Maintain personal hygiene by washing the hands regularly, even if you have not left the house.

To set up a consultation or get a quote for disinfection and cleaning, do not hesitate to contact us. Our team is on hand to help amid the Covid-19 pandemic. Makeshift testing centres need to be sanitised regularly, so choose IWESCO as your professional partner in cleaning and hygiene.
